Book update! (much belated)

I bet you’re wondering how that book-I-told-you-I-was-writing-a-million-years-ago is going, aren’t you?

Very well, thanks!

As a refresher, the title is My Parents Are Dead: What Now? A Practical Guide to Your Life After Their Death. And as of right now, the publication date is January 6, 2026. That’s technically subject to change, but my editor seems pretty confident about it. For the latest updates, I recommend either subscribing to my newsletter (it’s fun, I promise), or regularly checking this page.

When the book becomes available for pre-order (probably this summer), I’m going to be really annoying about it—don’t you worry.

Perhaps a checklist would be the most efficient way to recap?

✓ Draft the book (turned it into my editor last December!)

✓ Developmental edits (my editor is speedy, so we were done by February)

✓ Copy edits (my grammar is excellent, so these weren’t too bad)

✓ First proof (finished just last week!)

Next comes the second proof, and possibly more proofs. Who knows? Basically we’re just adding and deleting words to try to make everything look nicer on the printed page. When we fix one problem, we often create another. My editor likened it to Jenga, and it really does feel that way!

Right now I’m filling in my author questionnaire, which is a large, invasive survey that the marketing and publicity folks will use to sell the book. I’m excited to learn more about this part of the process. I’ve seen my author friends go through it, but obviously, this is my first time.

I’ll try to do a better job with updates in the future! Hope you’re enjoying the spring.
